Recommended Retail Price (RRP)

What is RRP?

RRP (Recommended Retail Price) is the suggested retail price of an item when sold through standard retail channels. It is used to show customers the typical market value of a product and is often used for comparison or promotional purposes.

In Ramsys, the RRP field represents the external retail price, the price the item is typically sold for elsewhere, outside your store or in the case of an active promotion the full, non promoted price.

How Ramsys Uses RRP With Shopify

When integrated with Shopify, Ramsys automatically maps RRP → Compare-at Price:

Ramsys Field

Shopify Field

Purpose

RRP (Or the Full price if the item is on Promotion)

Compare-at Price

Crossed-out “previous” price on product page

Selling Price/Websale if one is entered/Promo price if the item is on Promo

Price

Actual price customer pays

If RRP is higher than the selling price, Shopify displays the discount automatically.

If RRP is blank or invalid, Ramsys sends .NULL., so Shopify does not generate a Compare-at Price.

Manual entry of Compare-at Price in Shopify is not recommended, as even a zero or incorrect value can trigger GMC warnings.

Google Merchant Centre (GMC) Requirements

GMC enforces rules on Compare-at Pricing. If rules are violated, Google may:

Flag or disapprove the product

Issue a Price Mismatch warning

Reduce ad impressions

Suspend the feed in severe cases

GMC validates:

Compare-at Price must be truthful and realistic

Selling price must match exactly on the landing page

Prices for variants and currencies must match the feed

Fake or inflated discounts are not allowed

Ramsys ensures compliance by sending only valid RRP values.

Best Practice for Using RRP

Always use RRP when the item has a legitimate higher retail price elsewhere.

Ensure RRP is higher than your selling price.

Avoid using RRP to create false discounts — Google monitors this.

Leave RRP blank if not applicable; Ramsys will prevent Compare-at Price from being generated by shopify.
