Customer Geographic Segmentation

Customer Geographic Segmentation allows you to capture where your customers come from at the point of sale and use that information for reporting and business insights. This feature is flexible and fully configurable to suit your business.

Geographic Segmentation enables you to:

  • Categorise customers based on location (e.g. suburb, city, region, country, or custom-defined areas)
  • Prompt staff to record this information during a sale
  • Analyse trends and performance by customer origin in the dashboard

Setting Up Segments

You can define as many geographic segments as required.

Examples of segments:

  • Local
  • Out of Town
  • International
  • Specific suburbs or regions
  • Marketing zones (e.g. “Tourist Area”, “Industrial”, “Residential”)

To configure segments:

  1. Navigate to the Geographic Segmentation setup area in the POS configuration.
  2. Add each segment as a select-able option.
  3. Save your changes.

There is no fixed structure, segments can be tailored to your reporting needs.

Sales Screen Behaviour

During a transaction, the POS will prompt the staff member to select the customer’s geographic segment.

  • The prompt appears as part of the sales workflow.
  • Staff simply select the most appropriate option.
  • This step can be made mandatory or optional depending on configuration.

This ensures consistent data capture without slowing down the sales process.

Reporting and Dashboard

Captured segmentation data is available in the dashboard for analysis.

You can:

  • View sales grouped by geographic segment
  • Identify where your customers are coming from
  • Track trends over time
  • Measure the effectiveness of local vs non-local trade

This information can assist with:

  • Marketing decisions
  • Store performance analysis
  • Stock planning based on customer demographics

Best Practices

  • Keep segment options clear and easy to understand for staff
  • Avoid too many similar or overlapping categories
  • Periodically review segments to ensure they remain relevant
  • Train staff to select the most accurate option

Customer Geographic Segmentation provides valuable insight into your customer base with minimal effort at the point of sale, helping you make more informed business decisions.
